Healthcare organisations operate in increasingly complex and dynamic environments, requiring robust decision-making tools, streamlined operations, and resilient infrastructures. In this context, Information Systems (IS) are essential to support healthcare unit management by enabling accurate and timely information flows, improving clinical and administrative processes, and supporting performance and cost control mechanisms.

This Special Issue aims to advance knowledge on how information systems can transform the management of healthcare units. It provides a platform for empirical and theoretical studies addressing challenges and innovations in this domain. The issue stems from the Special Track on “Information Systems for Healthcare Unit Management” held at ICISMED 2026, and selected papers presented at the conference will be invited to submit extended versions for this publication.

 

We welcome high-quality contributions from multiple disciplines, including health informatics, accounting, management, computer science, public administration, and systems engineering, that explore the role of IS in enhancing healthcare delivery and performance.

All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer-review process, following the editorial standards of the target journal.

• Information systems for cost and performance management in hospitals

• Decision support systems and business intelligence in healthcare

• Artificial Intelligence and predictive analytics in hospital management

• Workflow optimization through TDABC and information systems

• Data-driven cost and process modeling in healthcare

• IS support for public health policies and digital transformation strategies

• Evaluation frameworks for IS implementation in healthcare settings
