LONGLIFE´26 – Longevity and society: a challenge for social innovation and health

This workshop focuses on exploring the health and social challenges linked to longevity in its multiple facets.

Increased longevity represents one of the most significant demographic transformations of the 21st century, with profound implications for health systems, social protection, and community organization. Longevity should not be seen merely as a clinical challenge, but as an opportunity to rethink models of care, social inclusion, and technological innovation. The integration of health, medicine, and information systems is essential to developing sustainable solutions that promote active aging, autonomy, and quality of life. This workshop aims to explore this interdisciplinary intersection, fostering dialogue between researchers, professionals, and policymakers.

Keywords: Longevity , Social innovation , Integrated care , Health technologies

TOPIC 1: INNOVATION IN HEALTH FOR LONGEVITY

CHAIRS: Raul Cordeiro (CARE), Alexandre Martins (CARE), Bruno Morgado (CARE), Carlos Sequeira (CARE, RISE-Health), José Carlos Carvalho (RISE-HEALTH), Pedro Amaro (CARE), Portugal

The aging population demands a profound transformation in healthcare delivery models.

This theme aims to explore innovative solutions that respond to the specific needs of the elderly population, promoting preventive health, personalized care, and the integration of services. Innovation in health for longevity is not limited to technology, but also involves new organizational approaches, professional training, and public policies that favor active and healthy aging. The articulation between medicine, public health, and social intervention is essential to guarantee person-centered care, focusing on autonomy, quality of life, and equity in access.

We welcome proposals on these topics. Possible topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • Integrated healthcare models centered on the elderly.

  • Personalized medicine and prevention of chronic diseases

  • Mental health and well-being in old age.

  • Training and development of professionals for lifelong care.

TOPIC 2: SOCIAL INCLUSION AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES

CHAIRS: Alexandre Martins (CARE), Raul Cordeiro (CARE), Joana Nobre (CARE), Paula Oliveira (CARE), Maria João Moreira ( Age.comm ), José Maria Carvalho (CARE), Cândida Alves (CARE), Ana Balão (CARE), Portugal

Longevity presents new challenges to social cohesion and the sustainability of communities. This theme proposes reflecting on inclusion strategies that promote active aging, citizen participation, and the construction of intergenerational support networks . Creating sustainable communities implies rethinking urban spaces, social services, and models of coexistence, valuing age diversity and combating isolation. The articulation between health and social intervention is essential to ensure that older citizens can live with dignity, autonomy, and full integration into society. This theme invites the sharing of practices, policies, and technologies that favor inclusive and resilient environments.

We welcome proposals on these issues. Possible topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • Community support networks and intergenerationality

  • Public policies for active aging and social participation

  • Combating digital isolation and exclusion.

  • Adapted housing and urban mobility for the elderly.

TOPIC 3: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES AND INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS FOR AGING

CHAIRS: Raul Cordeiro (CARE), Alexandre Martins (CARE), Bruno Morgado (CARE), Pedro Amaro (CARE), Tiago Taveira Gomes (MTG), Portugal

Digital transformation offers unique opportunities to address the challenges of longevity through the creation of technological solutions that support healthy, autonomous, and safe aging. This theme focuses on the application of information technologies, artificial intelligence, and intelligent systems to health management and social support for the elderly population. System interoperability, the protection of sensitive data, and the co-creation of digital tools with users themselves are central elements to ensure effectiveness, ethics, and inclusion. It promotes debate on how technology can be an ally of social innovation and medicine, contributing to more connected and resilient communities.

We welcome proposals on these topics. Possible topics may include (but are not limited to):

  • Digital platforms for remote monitoring and support.

  • Artificial intelligence applied to geriatric healthcare management

  • System interoperability and protection of sensitive data.

  • Co-creating technological solutions with and for older people.
